Preface: This article is mainly about the development history of Weidmüller's terminals. For such a small component, it is an important link to ensure the reliability of the factory automatic control system. Therefore, the key points of instrumentation and control design and engineering design are all in the details. A number of details can form a reliable system. Engineering requires precision in details, which is the essence and the most attractive part. The following content is excerpted from the product introduction on Weidmüller's official website.
History of Weidmüller Terminal Blocks

1. 1948 - SAK series (screw connection)
Flexible, lightweight, strong: Weidmüller uses the world's first plastic modular terminal block to innovate electrical installation. The SAK series, which came out in 1948 , already has all the important features of modern terminal blocks, including cross-sectional specification options and marking number systems. SAK terminal blocks are still very popular even today. Due to the advantages of high temperature resistance, acid resistance and UV resistance of this series of terminals, they are mainly used in various harsh environments.
2. 1978 - DSK series (screw connection)
Weidmüller's screwless plug-in connection products are a milestone in the development of connection technology. With the DSK series terminal blocks, vibration-resistant terminal connections can be completed quickly and without tools, even for the first time. This gives the compact DSK series a great advantage in the era. In addition, it is equipped with color-coded actuating elements for disconnecting wire connections and eliminating potential. This feature is still used in Weidmüller's current terminal blocks using PUSH IN direct connection technology.
3. 1983 - W series (screw connection)
Weidmüller's W series modular terminal blocks have brought breakthrough progress in comfort and safety. Not only does it use polyamide material with fire protection grade V0 , it also uses a patented pressure rod with a built-in centering mechanism for the first time. In addition, all W series products have a user-friendly design, and their appearance and functions are optimized for manual installation into the track. The W series has been sold for nearly 40 years and is still the most versatile terminal series product on the global market.

4. 1993 - Z series (shroud connection)
Weidmüller's Z series sets the market standard for terminal blocks with spring-clamp connection technology. This connection technology presses the conductors together with springs instead of screws. This saves time and ensures that the connection is vibration-resistant and maintenance-free. This ensures a high degree of safety and reliability even in critical applications, such as railway applications. Due to these advantages and the wide range of specifications from 0.14 to 35 mm² , the Z series is now widely used in many different industries and applications around the world.

5. 2004 - P Series ( PUSH IN direct connection technology)
Weidmüller's innovative terminal series using PUSH IN direct wiring technology has set a trend in the market. The insertion connection of hard wires and wired wires can be completed without tools, which significantly shortens the time required for wiring compared to other connection technologies. In addition, the disconnection of wires can also be completed very conveniently and quickly. By reducing the specifications to three cross-sections ranging from 0.14 mm² to 16 mm² , product selection and inventory preparation work have become simpler. The P series is still widely used in many applications.
6. 2016 - A series ( PUSH IN direct connection technology)
Weidmüller's terminal blocks with systematic module functions caused a huge sensation. In the A series, for the first time, multiple sub-series specially developed for applications are included for different fields, industries and control cabinet applications. The unified inspection and test head, consistent cross-connection channel, efficient marking system, and time-saving PUSH IN direct connection technology have brought particularly outstanding foresight to the A series. The innovative design of this series in terms of clear division of functional areas and colored buttons ensures maximum connection safety and maintenance safety.

With the PUSH IN connection, you can open the connection point without a screwdriver. Instead, you just need to insert the wire into the connection point. It saves a lot of time. The PUSH IN connection is particularly suitable for rigid wires, stranded rigid wires and soft wires with crimp terminals. In addition, ultrasonically welded wires can also be connected. The time displayed guides the connection operation time. All connection methods are either with terminals or without terminals.

7. 2021 - AS series ( SNAP IN technology)
The innovative result of Weidmüller's innovation is the terminal block with SNAP IN technology. With the AS series, flexible conductors can be wired easily, quickly and without tools without wire ends. Simply insert the conductor into the connection point and the mechanical structure of the terminal will click and firmly clamp the conductor. SNAP IN technology ensures a permanent and reliable connection, even in the future when automation is becoming more and more popular. The AS modular terminal blocks are compatible with the A series and can be used in many different ways.
